Colorado Fall Colors

My in-laws where in town last week to enjoy a few vacation days with us here in Colorado. We much appreciate their visits, it's tough to live away from home, far from family and friends.
This time, we decided to enjoy the amazing summer weather (yes, it has been high 80's in Denver everyday for the past 2 weeks) to go out and do some of the Fall activities that are traditionally American and that I have never tried before.

The first of which was the Colorado Fall Colors drive. Since it's still summer in Denver, you can't see any change in the leaves so we decided to take one of the many possible drives to the mountains to see the amazing, gold colored trees and feel a little like it's already Fall.

We took a drive to Grant, CO. Stopped by the City Center which means: one single old town store, very interesting. You really feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. After that, we followed to the Pikes National Park and drove up the mountain to the Guanella Pass until reaching the summit. It was extremely cold there and it's over 12,000 feet of altitude. The views are just amazing. Look at the pictures of my in-laws: it looks like they are posing in front of a fake backdrop.

After that, we went down the mountain to visit Georgetown, CO, a very cute, very old looking, wild west style town, where we had a lovely lunch and visited a couple of Antique Stores (with amazing jewelry) and then drove back.

We spent ~5 hours in the car, looking at trees, at the gorgeous gold leaves and at the amazing houses on the top of the mountains and imagining how is life over there. I'm very much a city girl and couldn't contemplate to live in the mountains, but my in-laws swear they could do that. I bet they would be bored within half-hour. :)
